CORNERSTONE MAGIC
by Carol Dancause, as told by Pedro
‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the Ranch.
Nothing was stirring, not even a branch.
The Connell’s were nestled, all snug in their beds.
With visions of trail rides, dancing in their heads.
The horses in paddocks, settled down for the night.
Even Pedro and Miller, doing it right.
When out in the barn, there was such a clatter.
Pedro and Miller said “What does it matter.”
They slipped under the wire, and ran to the stairs.
The elf that was in there, was not one of theirs.
He was dressed all in red, and carried a sack.
His eight horses looked small, and each had a rack.
Pedro and Miller, stayed out of sight.
But never forgot, what they saw that night.
Apples and cookies, and carrots galore.
When they thought he was done, he just left more.
Saddles and bridles, and rakes all around.
Cowboy hats and boots, left all over the ground.
He got back in his sleigh, his small horses a sight.
They lifted off the barn roof, and into the night.
Pedro and Miller, watched him rein in the night
They looked again and again, not a slacker in sight.
Pedro and Miller said “It makes sense now.”
Susan and Julia taught the Elf’s team how.
To all of our friends, far and near: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
